Gift Certificates
Gift certificates make ideal gifts for birthdays and special occasions, and entitle the recipient to a three days on one of my excellent courses. Upon successful payment you will be sent a confirmation email asking for the name of the person the certificate is for. Once we have this information a PDF certificate will be sent to you. The recipient can then choose the course and date that is most suitable for them. Once a course and date has been chosen, simply call me or send an email and a place will be allocated.
Please be assured that courses run right thoughout the year even if dates haven't yet been advertised.

Introduction To Stone Masonry
A very popular three day professionally taught stone masonry course designed to teach students of all abilities the processes involved in the production of architectural stonework. Whether you're looking to enter the trade as a Stonemason, expand your knowledge of working with stone, involved or interested in restoration and conservation, or perhaps own a stone property in need of maintenance, this course is the ideal place to begin.The course is based on the production of a classical ovolo mould complete with internal and external mitres, the processes involved being fundamental in the production of all architectural stonework. The ovolo mould can be found in many guises in both historic and modern architecture from classical columns to the basis of egg and dart ornamentation. Throughout the course the following areas are addressed:
- Selection of suitable stone including identification of defects.
- Correct selection, use and sharpening of tools.
- Working true flat surfaces without twist from rough blocks.
- Marking out of templates.
- Correct methods of working mouldings.
- Marking out of internal and external mitres.
- Finishes.
Carving Gargoyles and Grotesques
An excellent three day stone carving course for students of all abilities wishing to create grotesques and gargoyles in stone. Using a hands-on approach this carving course takes students from the basics of three-dimensional form through to the creation of expression and personality using shadow, depth and undercut. An ability to draw isn't necessary and students will be shown how to apply their ideas directly to the stone without the need for preliminary model making.
Letter Cutting In Stone
This professionally taught 3 day course is an excellent introduction to cutting letters in stone. During the course students are introduced to the basics of both classical and contemporary letter forms by means of the creation of a simple inscription from initial design through to cutting and finishing techniques. The course is an ideal starting point for those interested in both the setting out and application of cutting letters in stone.
Cost
The cost of the gift certificates is £190 if paid in full at the time of booking. Alternatively you can pay a deposit of £100 now and a balance of £105 payable two weeks before the chosen course date (total of £205). Please note that paying in full will save you £15 compared to paying a deposit plus balance.

Location
The courses are held in Lincoln, Lincolnshire at our purpose-built workshop premises within The Terrace situated in the heart of Lincoln's Cultural Quarter - the ideal venue for artistic inspiration being near to the Theatre Royal, Lincoln Drill Hall, The Central Library, The Collection Art and Archaeology in Lincolnshire, The Usher Art Gallery and historic Lincoln Cathedral. Health And Safety
Please be aware that all students attending courses are expected to provide their own safety footwear. Safety glasses are provided and are to be worn at all times. Each course will commence with a Health and Safety briefing.
Cancellations and Alterations
The stated price of all courses offered on this website are inclusive of a non refundable £100 deposit. Should you wish to cancel for any reason you will be refunded any money you have paid minus £100.
