A very popular 2½ day stone masonry course designed to give students a thorough grounding in the techniques required for the production of dimensional stonework. Whether you're looking to enter the trade as a Stonemason, expand your knowledge of working with stone, or perhaps own a stone property in need of maintenance, this course is the ideal place to begin.
Under the expert tuition of professionally qualified and time-served Stonemason Sam, students of all abilities are taken from the very basics through to more advanced areas of stone masonry. Topics addressed include:
- Correct use, care and selection of tools.
- Working a true flat surface with no twist.
- Creation of simple classical mouldings including the correct processes of production.
- Mouldings with returns.
- Working the column.
The stone used for the stone masonry courses is Lincoln limestone, a creamy white sedimentary stone rich in aquatic fossils and easy to work. The same stone was used for the construction of Lincoln Cathedral and more recently, it's ongoing repair.
Everyone who has attended my stone masonry courses has achieved excellent results and taken away with them fantastic pieces of work – testimony to the professional level of instruction I give throughout the course.
