If you are looking to enter the trade as a Stonemason or perhaps wish to expand your skill set then this 2½ day course is the perfect place to begin. Under the expert tuition of professionally qualified and time-served Stonemason Sam, you'll learn the core skills required for the production of dimensional stonework.
Using a hands-on approach, students will be taken from the very basics through to more advanced topics. Areas addressed include:
- Correct use, care and selection of tools.
- Working a true flat surface with no twist.
- Creation of simple classical mouldings including the correct processes of production.
- Mouldings with returns.
- Working the column.
Included in the price of the course are a set of quality masonry tools from G. Gibsons for you to keep. The set includes:
- ½" mallet headed firesharp chisel
- 1" mallet headed firesharp chisel
- 2" mallet headed firesharp bolster
- firesharp punch
- 1" claw holder and bits
- 2½lb Masons club hammer
- 5" Masons nylon mallet
The tools are supplied at cost and the total value is over £100. The stone used for the course is Ancaster limestone, perfect for working with firesharp chisels. The course represents excellent value for money and will give you a firm grounding in the field of Stonemasonry.
Meals And Refeshments
The cost of the course is inclusive of 3 lunches and 2 evening meals at local bar and restaurant The Falconer situated approx a mile from Cold Hanworth Forge. The Falconer is part of Welton Manor Golf Centre and boasts a full 18 hole golf course and well stocked fishing lake for those interested in extending their stay. Refreshment breaks during the course are taken on an ad hoc basis with tea, coffee and biscuits in plentiful supply.
Accommodation
The cost of the course doesn't include accommodation. However, there are a number of Bed & Breakfast and self-catering establishments in the area. Health And Safety
Please be aware that all students attending courses are expected to provide their own safety footwear. Safety glasses are provided and are to be worn at all times. Cold Hanworth Forge is a working establishment and as such each course will commence with a Health and Safety briefing.

Pricing And Payment Methods
There are two types of payment, payment in full, and deposit plus balance. Please note that paying in full will save you £15 compared to paying a deposit plus the balance.
Payment In Full:
£380 if paid in full at time of booking.
Deposit Plus Balance:
£50 deposit paid now to secure a place, then £345 balance to be paid before Monday June 2nd, 2008 (total of £395).

Cancellations and Alterations
The stated price of all courses offered on this website are inclusive of a non refundable £50 deposit. Should you wish to cancel for any reason you will be refunded any money you have paid minus £50.
If you have booked a place on a course but are unable to attend then you can transfer to another course on a different date providing there is an available place. If the course you transfer to differs in price then you will be debited or credited accordingly. Please give at least three weeks notice before your original course start date if you need to transfer.
