A very popular 3 day stone carving course for students of all abilities wishing to create grotesques and gargoyles in stone. Using a hands-on approach this carving course takes students from the basics of three-dimensional form through to the creation of expression and personality using shadow, depth and undercut. An ability to draw isn't necessary and students will be shown how to apply their ideas directly to the stone without the need for preliminary model making.

The stone used for the stone carving courses is Lincoln limestone, a creamy white sedimentary stone rich in aquatic fossils and easy to work. The same stone was used for the construction of Lincoln Cathedral and more recently, it's ongoing repair.

Everyone who has attended my stone carving courses has achieved excellent results and taken away with them fantastic pieces of work – testimony to the professional level of instruction I give throughout every course.

Refreshment breaks during the course are taken on an ad hoc basis with tea, coffee and biscuits in plentiful supply.

Please note this course runs from 10am to 3pm daily.

Accommodation

The cost of the course doesn't include accommodation. However, there are a large number of Bed & Breakfast establishments in and around Lincoln. Location

The courses are held in Lincoln, Lincolnshire at our purpose-built workshop premises within The Terrace situated in the heart of Lincoln's Cultural Quarter - the ideal venue for artistic inspiration being near to the Theatre Royal, Lincoln Drill Hall, The Central Library, The Collection Art and Archaeology in Lincolnshire, The Usher Art Gallery and historic Lincoln Cathedral. Health And Safety

Please be aware that all students attending courses are expected to provide their own safety footwear. Safety glasses are provided and are to be worn at all times. Each course will commence with a Health and Safety briefing.

Cost

The cost of the course is £190 if paid in full at the time of booking.

Alternatively you can pay a deposit of £100 now and a balance of £105 payable before Sunday October 17th, 2010 (total of £205). Please note that paying in full will save you £15 compared to paying a deposit plus balance.

Cancellations and Alterations

The stated price of all courses offered on this website are inclusive of a non refundable £100 deposit. Should you wish to cancel for any reason you will be refunded any money you have paid minus £100.

If you have booked a place on a course but are unable to attend then you can transfer to another course on a different date providing there is an available place. If the course you transfer to differs in price then you will be debited or credited accordingly. Please give at least three weeks notice before your original course start date if you need to transfer.
