Stone carving courses, stonemasonry courses and letter cutting courses taught by professionally qualified Stone Mason, Eilidh Fridlington, a former Lincoln Cathedral Stonemason with 26 years of experience in architectural stonework and carving. She served her apprenticeship at the cathedral and is a holder of a distinction in Advanced City & Guilds Stonemasonry; the highest designation obtainable.
The courses are held in Lincoln, Lincolnshire at purpose-built workshop premises within the Terrace, situated in the heart of Lincoln’s Cultural Quarter - the ideal venue for artistic inspiration being near to the Theatre Royal, Lincoln Drill Hall, The Central Library, The Collection Art and Archaeology in Lincolnshire, The Usher Art Gallery and historic Lincoln Cathedral. Stone Carving Courses
The stone carving courses are based on the creation of gargoyles and grotesques and teach clients of all abilities the important processes involved in the successful creation of these fun and sometimes scary stone creatures. The duration is 3 days, during which time you will produce and take home with you an excellent piece of carving to be proud of. The current list of carving courses can be found here.
The stonemasonry courses are based on the production of a classical ovolo mould complete with internal and external mitres, the processes involved being fundamental in the production of all architectural stonework. Whether you're looking to enter the trade as a Stonemason, expand your knowledge of working with stone, involved or interested in restoration and conservation, or perhaps own a stone property in need of maintenance, this course is the ideal place to begin. The duration is 3 days, and during this time you will produce and take home with you an excellent example of architectural stonework demonstrating the skills you have learnt. Letter Cutting Courses
The letter cutting courses are based around the processes involved in the application of letter cutting in stone using both classical and contemporary letter forms. The duration is 3 days, during which time those attending will learn the techniques involved in the setting out and cutting of a stone inscription.
